Recent Changes to the Exult XML Conversion Wizard

  1. Import data from remote XML URLs directly. A separate download step is not required.
  2. Major performance improvement when processing multiple XML files.
  3. Recursively select multiple XML files a folder and its sub-folders. No limit on the number of files that can be imported.
  4. Command Line: Log status of XML import.
  5. Command Line: Encoding(UTF-8, UTF-15, ANSI) for text output formats (CSV, TEXT) can be specified.

  1. XML elements with the same name are now installed into the parent worksheet with a suffix indicating the instance of the element. Previously, such columns were inserted into a different worksheet due to database normalization.

  1. Bug fix to truncate column names to the correct limit for each database. Particularly important for Microsoft Access since the limit is a very low 32 characters.
  2. Bug fix: Change in the case of element names in XML needs to be properly accounted for by creating the column names. This is required since the database column names are not case-sensitive.
  3. Facility to directly read XML from a URLs added (currently supporting http or ftp).
  4. Using the more secure SHA algorithm for computing the hash value of an XML file to decide whether to it has been previously loaded.

  1. When exporting tables to MS Access, Foreign Key relationships were not being created. (Thanks to Carlos Velasquez for reporting this issue.)
  2. Foreign key relationships properly created for tables referenced in views too.

  1. Easily merge data from two or more tables by automatically applying a join condition based on parent-child relationship.
  2. Easily handle large files. Since the data is automatically shredded to an embedded database, memory requirements for handling huge files are minimal.
  3. Speed improved by an order of magnitude. Upto 300% faster in some cases.

  1. Bug Fix: presence of "." in XML element names causing problem when creating Access tables or exporting to Excel. Changed to "_".
  2. Enabled minimize button on the Wizard so it can be minimized during long operations.
  3. When the Wizard is minimized, it flashes the task bar icon when opening the XML and exporting it are completed.

  1. Exult is an easy-to-use Wizard Application which helps you convert XML to any of the following formats:
    • Microsoft Access Database (or an MDB file)
    • Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet (XLS file)
    • Comma-Separated-Value file (CSV file)

    • Text file(s) with tab, colon, or any other demarcated file.
  2. Easily handles elements as well as attributes.
  3. Converting even complex XML files is a snap.
  4. XML Structure information is maintained using auto-generated primary and foreign keys. This information is especially useful when exporting to databases such as Microsoft Access.
  5. Information within the XML is handled in an intuitive manner and extracted to separate tables or worksheets as needed without requiring user intervention.
  6. Exult has a familiar and easy-to-use Wizard interface which steps the user through the conversion.
  7. MS Access (MDB) files generated are compatible with all versions of Access starting with 97.
  8. Relationships between tables is also exported when converting to MS Access and can be checked by selecting Tools -> Relationships under MS Access.
  9. Unlike other competing applications, Exult does not require or use XSL stylesheets.
  10. Java or .NET NOT required.
